Sara BotkinSara Botkin

Since her return from New York City to Pittsburgh in 2001, Pittsburgh native Sara Botkin has been delighting audiences with her sparkling soprano voice. She has appeared as a soloist with Chatham Baroque, The University of Pittsburgh’s Bach and Baroque Ensemble, the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Baroque Ensemble. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette music critic Andrew Druckenbrod wrote of one of Ms. Botkin’s performances, "Of the vocal soloists…one of the youngest shone the brightest: soprano Sara Botkin.  Her voice resonated with a clear, pure timbre."

Ms. Botkin graduated with Highest Honors from Interlochen Arts Academy and with Highest Distinction from the University of Virginia   As a choral singer in New York, she performed with some of the nation’s finest ensembles in the city’s most famous venues including Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, St. John the Divine, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the State Theater at Lincoln Center.  She was an original member of the 10-voice a cappella group The Douglas Frank Chorale which in 2001 won the CARA award for Best Classical Album – The A Cappella Singer.  Ms. Botkin released her debut solo CD, An Angel’s Christmas, in 2003 and Pittsburgh Magazine named the disc a “Top 5 DJ Pick” in 2004.  Her 2007 disc, Breath of Heaven: A Christmas Collection, features Gretchen Van Hoesen, principal harpist of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and their recording was heralded as “delicate and poignant – a full-length delight for classical listeners and regular folks alike” by www.christmasreviews.com.

Ms. Botkin has donated her CDs to raise funds for various organizations including WQED-fm 89.3, the North Hills Food Bank, WashArts and Westminster Presbyterian Church.  She also offers free CDs to any soldier currently serving in the US military in honor of her brother Lester, a former US Marine who served in Iraq.

While in New York, Sara spent her nights singing and her days working for AON Corporation on the 105th floor of Two World Trade Center.  A survivor of the September 11 attacks, she relocated to her hometown of Pittsburgh where she is a Certified Financial Planner™ and Vice President at Morgan Stanley in Upper St. Clair.  Sara and her husband Ovi live in Canonsburg with their 4 year old son Henry and 1 year old son Alex.
