Ellen Fast received a master's degree in collaborative piano performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was a student of Martha Fischer and a recipient of several scholarships. Her undergraduate degree is from Goshen College in northern Indiana, where she studied with Marvin Blickenstaff and was a winner of the school’s annual Concerto-Aria Competition.

As a pianist, Ellen enjoys playing chamber music with friends. She is a Core member of the Incidental Chamber Players in Pittsburgh and has also appeared with OvreArts. Ellen is also an avid choral singer. She is a member of the chamber choir Voces Solis, the Chancel Choir at Shadyside Presbyterian Church, and has been either a member or alternate member of the Professional Core of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, with which she also serves as one of the rehearsal accompanists. Ellen has played for several other choirs, including the Thomas Circle Singers in Washington, DC (which at that time was one of only a few organizations to be honored with a Washingtonian of the Year award), and The Festival Choir of Madison. The Washington Post has remarked that Ellen “made the keyboard sing” and “played with … polish.”

Ellen also works as a freelance book proofreader for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and previously worked as a copyeditor and proofreader for music publisher A-R Editions in Madison. She enjoys watching her two young children get smarter and funnier every day and has a special relationship with baked goods.
